Enormous WordPress theme

As promised on Friday here is the final release version of the Upstart Blogger Enormous WordPress theme. If you are looking for a high impact WordPress theme with big typography and minimalist styling, a WordPress theme that gets the job done if you want to really get your message across, then this could be the one for you.

Styled using classic swiss style typography throughout, Enormous is a WordPress theme with a free gift of three free tracks from Enormous, a band I play with. I expanded on this in more detail in Friday’s post so I won’t duplicate the details here. The purpose of today’s post is to get the theme out to everyone making it available in an easy and fully tested version.

Click here to see the theme live on the Enormous website or here to see a standard demo. To download the full version click here or, if you are browsing from a location where your bandwidth is restricted click here for the light version.

The zip file contains all the plugins you need, all wrapped up in a separate zip file. To install the theme first unzip the downloaded file, then browse to a file marked ub_enormous and unzip that. Then upload the ub_enormous folder to your WordPress themes folder. To use the plugins simply unzip the plugins zip file and upload the contents to your WordPress plugins folder.

You will almost certainly need to do some customization of the theme to make it fit your needs. Simply edit the header.php file and replace the header text and the header image to make the theme your own. Please leave the footer information intact so that others may also enjoy the theme and find it easily.

As always, if you make use of one of my themes I would love to hear from you. Customization is highly encouraged and I enjoy seeing my themes pulled, stretched and generally played around with.

  1. Thanks for the light version!

  2. Just love it! Simple, elegant, Swiss-like… love the use of some chunky Helvetica.

  3. Wicked. I’m gonna give this a tinker around with. I’ll let you know if I end up using it. I probably will as I love the large header image space. Just what I need.

  4. Mmm, I dunno. Everything seems too big to me :(

Now that’s what I call good looking.

Really nice and refreshing theme. Gonna download it and play with it a bit.

    Thanks and all the best,

    The Moneyac

  6. Hey, you didn’t mention this theme even comes with music! That’s something special! All wordpress theme designers should follow this trend!

Will play with it and hopefully I’ll like it enough to replace my currently hideous wordpress theme :) Will come back and show off my results if I do!

  7. Looks good to me. I’ll snag it and play with it and see what happens!

    Thanks for sharing!

I got yout theme up and running. Thanks a lot. I had another theme for quite some years untill I discovered Upstart Blogger. You make really special themes, they are as original as that solo on the tune of your band: “Something in my heart” – I never heard horns along with a steelguitar while talking, that’s really special music. Most of my readers like the huge font of your theme, one or two do not but I’ll stick with this theme, I love it!. Haven’t done much yet, a bit of tweaking inside, now I should make all pictures larger in my posts. It’s worth it. Cheers!

  9. Howdy Ashley,

Just a quick note: the link to the demo above is currently bringing up the Futurosity Magazine theme.

    Thought you should know!

    Enormously cool theme!

I installed it n all plugins, yet getting these error messages:

Warning: include_once(/home/dll/public_html/fireearth/wp-content/plugins/__MACOSX/) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: Success in /home/dll/public_html/fireearth/wp-settings.php on line 465

    Warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening ‘/home/dll/public_html/fireearth/wp-content/plugins/__MACOSX/’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/dll/public_html/fireearth/wp-settings.php on line 465

Kindly help. I don’t want to miss this great theme please! Thks :-)

    Cool theme!
I uploaded it, then unwittingly unzipped the plugins into a separate folder within the “plugins” folder in my site. That causes error messages (which I had resolved!).

Hope this is helpful for those with similar issues. Thks! :-)

    hi ashley,
this is really a great theme, it’s just what i was looking for. however, there’s a small limitation on this one.
there are some plugins that doesn’t work on the template. but there’s one that i would like to install, one that allows to publish a thumbnail on the excerpt.
i tried some, but they don’s work (thumbnail for excerpts, for example).
is it possible for you to give me a plugin address which works on your template?
and, by the way, do you think possible to publish a complete list of allowed plugins for enormous?
    thanx in advance,
    congrats for this enormous work!

    ashley:
do you have any advice concerning asides on enourmous? do you have a plugin of your choice, or should i go to the loop?
the main idea is to have a metablog on the sidebar (or even between content), but getting titles out of “latest posts” and keeping them on my rss feed.

hope you understood my “kinda” english…

    thanks in advance!

    Hey there,
I just installed this fabulous theme for a friend’s blog and we are discovering that images don’t display as they should; setting left-align in the admin panel previews the image correctly, but it does not display that way in the site. any solutions?

  17. hi there… i love your theme… but am a total noob regarding php… how can i change the colors header and so on?

  18. Howdy… Loved the theme and decided to use it on my newest project, Poets Who Blog. I ripped out some of the sidebar stuff and made a few under-the-hood changes along with mashing it together with the Moleskine background image. Produced a rather nice effect. First post went up as of today with more to follow in the weeks to come. Thanks again!

Hi, cheers for the theme it looks great on my band’s site! I’ve customised it a bit but the one thing I can’t figure out how to do is to show the number of comments on an article on the main index page (so it would say 0 comments, 1 comment, 2 comments etc)… I can’t seem to find anything in the index.php that references comments at all (the default just has the permalink) and tried copying code from the comments.php but didn’t work – any help or advice would be great! Thanks again for the theme!
